What we think
This app is based on research from the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence.
The 4 quadrants and associated emotions are very similar to concepts taught in Zones of Regulation
This app is easy to use. It has a welcome tutorial to walk a new user through the features and use of the app. Each user has the option of creating an account so that their mood/emotion ratings, reasons and personalised strategies can be saved. There is the option of setting reminders to remind the user to record their current mood/emotion. NB: Requires internet connectivity
The app is designed to build emotional awareness, and can be used to simply rate current emotion, or can be used to also record why the user is feeling that way, and/or to view suggested strategies to use to move towards desired emotions.
Not applicable as it is a self rating tool
Users need to be able to read English. Users who are not familiar with much emotional vocabulary may need support to understand the subtle differences between listed emotions.
There are selected features of this app that can be personalised for the individual. The initial “plotting” of the mood cannot be modified, however there is the option of adding individualised strategies (including suggested activities or replacement thoughts, positive quotes and images) to be suggested if wanting to “shift” from 1 quadrant into another.
This app relies on the user being able to read. Audio or picture based options instead of words may expand its usability.
The reports that track the emotions don’t contain a record of the strategy selected to try.
Colourful, visually appealing and intuitive to use.Reports that track emotions over time can used to look for patterns in mood, and can be viewed will all emotions, or can be split into the different quadrants.
