Dexteria focusses on hand exercises that improve Fine Motor skills and handwriting readiness in children and adults. The exercises take advantage of the multi-touch interface to help build strength, control, and dexterity.
What we think
Dexteria is an easy app to use (particularly the “pinch it” and “write it” activities). Verbal instructions are given at the beginning of the activity and throughout the activities. No written prompts are used. The “tap it” activity can initially be difficult to understand, but listening to the instructions is the key.
Dexteria consists of 3 modes/ activities – Write It, Tap It and Pinch It. These activities are designed more like exercises rather than a game. The player can move up to harder levels (beat the time, the targets pop up faster) for Fine Motor dexterity and coordination. The app can be used across contexts such as home and school environments, however is more exercise based rather than game based.
Yes there are interactive components in the app. The app provides the player feedback for the correct and incorrect answer when writing. Sound effects are used to provide feedback when the letter is written correctly. The app also provides sound feedback during the “tap it” activity when the player correctly hits the target. Similarly during the “pinch it” activity, the player is rewarded with a sound effect when the correctly pinch the target, however not when they miss the target.
Yes, people of varying backgrounds could use it
The app could be improved with written explanation.
The timed element/ beat the record was a motivating component of the activities.
